This service is a free tool that precisely calculates the year, month, and day pillars (Ganji) from your solar-calendar birth date based on lunar calendar data published by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) on Korea's public data portal, computes the hour pillar directly using the traditional formula (based on the Day Stem and birth hour), and shows your Four Pillars and Five Elements balance.
Is this the same as a traditional Four Pillars consultation?
No. The four pillars and Five Elements balance are calculated precisely, but this is an entertainment-focused reference service that doesn't cover professional analysis like the Ten Gods, special stars, or Grand Fortune cycles. Interpretations can vary between schools of thought.
Can I use it without knowing the time?
Yes. Without a time, it reads based only on the year, month, and day pillars and their elements, without the hour pillar. The Day Stem (the heavenly stem of the day pillar — the "you" that the reading is based on) is determined regardless of time, so the reading itself stays the same.
What about birthdays near a solar term boundary?
The month pillar changes based on the 24 solar terms, not the calendar month. It's calculated from official Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute data, so the solar term boundary is precisely reflected, but it may not account for the exact moment a solar term changes within the same day.
How is the Five Elements balance calculated?
Each of the eight (or six) characters across the four (or three) pillars is classified into one of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water, and counted. It uses the traditional Five Elements correspondences for the heavenly stems (甲乙=Wood, 丙丁=Fire, 戊己=Earth, 庚辛=Metal, 壬癸=Water) and earthly branches (寅卯=Wood, 巳午=Fire, 辰戌丑未=Earth, 申酉=Metal, 亥子=Water).
